Santa started
out one cold, snowy Christmas Eve to deliver his toys to all the good
little girls and boys all over the world. Over hills, down valleys,
through cities and towns, Santa made his way to every home along the way. |
| Page 2. |
Sometimes
Santa would meet people along the way and he always heard and had a word
of cheer. "Hi, Santa", the children would cheer! And with
a jolly "Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas" Santa would shout
as he went along his route! |
| Page 3. |
There
would be cookies and milk and treats galore. Moms and Dads, and children
too, would leave treats for hard working Santa. And treats many more for the
reindeer, too. It was a hard day's night and all treats were welcome
for energy was needed to resist the cold, pull the sleigh and carefully
set out all the toys. |

This was a
particularly foggy Christmas Eve and Rudolph was leading the team, as
usual. Now Rudolph was painfully shy about his red nose, but he was very
good in the lead, with his bright shiny red nose shining through the gloom
and lighting the way. |
| Page 5. |
To the end
of the route Santa and the reindeer came. The last house and the last
treat was found - cookies and milk for Santa and celery and carrots for
the reindeer. But Oh, it was a steep and slippery roof . And when Santa
took the treats back topside there arose such a clatter...of happy
reindeer hoofs dancing. For Rudolph was very, very happy indeed, the last
house for this year. |
| Page 6. |
Oooops!
Santa slipped...tumbled down the roof and lost his glasses. Santa and his
glasses went tumbling through the air, headed for the ground. Rudolph,
quick as a wink, slipped out of his harness and bounded after St. Nick! |
| Page 7. |
Rudolph
leaped and flew right under old St. Nick - and caught him, too. But what
to Santa's wondering ears was that click and tinkle tinkle he heard! Oh,
wow, it was Rudolph's sharp hooves -- trampling Santa's glasses into the
snow! |
| Page 8. |
Santa said
"Rudolph, thanks for saving me from being buried in that snow
bank...and don't worry about Santa's glasses for we have a whole year to
replace them now. Let's go back and enjoy our treats for the long journey
home. And Santa will see his optometrist on Boxing day." |
| Page 9. |
After a
good rest on Christmas Day Santa said "Sweetie (that's Mrs. Claus)
I've got to go see Specs (Santa's Optometrist Elf) and get new reading
glasses. We had a little accident." So off old Santa went to get his
new glasses. |
| Page 10. |
Specs saw
old Santa coming. With a glad shout, Specs said "Why Santa, welcome.
I haven't seen you for years and years? Whatever brings you here so
soon?"
And Santa said "Ho, Ho, Ho, Specs, and we had a little
accident on Christmas Eve. I need new reading glasses." And he
handed Specs his trampled old pair. |
| Page 11. |
"Oh,
my" said Specs. "Well, we'll certainly have to fix up a new pair
of glasses for you. Can't have you not able to read all the letters the
children send in next Christmas, can we?"
And Santa echoed "Ho, Ho, Ho, and Certainly not. Whatever
would I do if I wasn't able to tell what the children wanted? And what
would the children do?" |
| Page 12. |
Then Specs
dropped the bombshell. "But, Santa," he said, "styles have
changed in the last few hundred years. I can't get square glasses any
more. You'll have to take round style glasses."
|
| Page 13. |
"Oh, my, whatever will I do?" wailed
Santa. "What will the children do? They won't recognize old Santa
with round glasses. Santa always wears square!" |
|
Page 14.
|
Well, Specs
worked and worked, and time passed. And he hammered and bent, and more
time passed. And he shaped and styled, and still more time passed. All to no
avail! "All I can
make is round!" he muttered to himself! |
|
Page 15.
|
After several months of work, Santa came
back and said "Specs, the letters for Christmas are coming in and I
need my new glasses to read them and start making the toys." And Specs said "Santa, I have tried. But all
I can make are round glasses. It seems square is just 'too Square'
anymore. So, here they are, Santa, try them out!" |
|

|
Santa moaned
"They seem to work ok, but oh, what will I do, what will I do? How will the Children recognize old Santa?"
Well, Santa went back home, feeling very down and dejected.
"Christmas just won't be the same" he said to himself! |
|

But Mrs. Claus was
waiting, and she greeted Santa with a kiss and said "Santa, how very
nice you look with your new glasses. The children will just love your new
look!" |
|
Page 18.
|
And that's
how Santa, with a very merry "Ho, Ho, Ho!" ended up with new
round glasses instead of his old square glasses
everyone knew as his trademark! |
